Simply because I was unable to see what made me unique.
This year I learnt the importance of accepting your flaws for what they are.
Flaws are a part of you, they make you more interesting.
I love nature especially since I've embarked on my natural hair journey I have a deep love for the country side.
I loved how we all had the same dresses on yet we each gave it a different look and feel.
That's the beauty of us as women. We are all unique yet we are all beautiful.
Instead of searching for the flaws within ourselves we should start appreciating them.
The pictures are an example of our beauty once we came together.
As women we need to start supporting each other, once we work together we can make a bigger difference instead of competing against each other to look better or have more.
I love supporting people around me to chase their dreams.
A Queen I admire named Stephanie also known as Afrocheri shared this poem she wrote.
I fell in love and I thought I'd share it with you all, be sure to read the full poem on her blog.
THE BEAUTY CONSTRUCT.
I used to be ashamed
of my home I called a body
Because it never seemed
to match the precise measurement
society deemed acceptable.
Being comfortable in your own skin
Is one of the most revolutionary art known to man
It is an art filled with the many colours of your personality
It is the trials you have overcome
It is your identity.
Refine your idea of beauty
And don't let it refine you
Your life is your painting
Paint it with the beauty inside of you.
But a simple smile can allow them to feel good for that small moment of their day.
As much as we have things which frustrate us in the world there are so many things we should be grateful for. Each day you are blessed with a new opportunity to make something out of yourself.
I've always wanted to redefine the image of Africa.
But I know I cannot change people's perspectives and I respect that.
I want to show that beauty grows from Africa and there is beauty within it.
Before I traveled I was narrow minded until I saw that what was being shown on television wasn't what I was seeing in front of me. Explore the world to explore your mind.
I wanted to empower them to have love for themselves and love for other people so I said this.
When you see a beautiful woman do not compare yourself to her
You are beautiful
She is beautiful
You are two different kinds of beautiful
You can't compare the sun to the moon
And you shouldn't
So when you see that woman
Say God bless me and God bless her
And keep it moving, love.
