YAKO BEAUTY: THE REVIEW
Picture

The Natural Hair Community has created so many opportunities for people to blossom and embrace who they are as well as opening a new door for people to create businesses with products and events.

I love how this movement of people embracing their natural hair has been able to influence young kids as well as an older generation of women. I didn’t know by big chopping I would eventually create my own platform which shares certain aspects of my life. I didn’t know I would get to work with so many amazing people who invest so much love and passion into creating something which they feel will be able to have a positive impact on the world.
Picture

Yako Beauty is a product which has such a meaningful ethos. They aspire to create a product which enhances what you already have by providing your hair with natural oils and moisturisers. I love products which want you to work with your own curl and texture without having to manipulate it.

I was sent these products at the beginning of Spring so it was nice to try them after doing a big clear out of many old products I had been storing on my "shelf." I say shelf but we both know it's more than one "shelf" but this isn’t about me being a product junkie!
Picture

I did a You Tube video which demonstrated how I used the products but I wanted to share a few tips which may help the way you use the product. I was advised by Rahma to use them separately when doing a Wash N’ Go however my hair is very thick so when I used just the Defining Crème, it wasn’t as moisturised but I still had definition.

So the next time I used it, I used the Smoothing Oil-In-Crème as a Leave In Conditioner to add some moisturise and smoothen my hair before scrunching the defining cream to finish. It is important to understand that although this is the method I chose, you can style with one or the other as you don’t necessarily need both products.
Picture

If your curls are a lot finer, then I’d definitely recommend using the Smoothing Oil-In-Crème, crating it through and smoothing it down on your ends then flipping your head down and scrunching. It can also be used to refresh day 2 or 3 hair. Take small sections, spritz then smooth down on your hair focusing on your ends to allow the curl to curl back up. This product contains a lot of natural oils such as Macadamia, Coconut, Olive Oils, Nettle and Horsetail Extracts.

You can also use it a styler for laying your edges or general moisturising. It's great for people who don't want to be spend a lot of money on different products but want something which has multiple uses.

If your hair is thick then the Defining Crème works wonders as it doesn’t weigh your hair down but it acts as a moisturiser and gives you hold so you can have a long lasting Wash N’ Go! It contains my favourite oil; Avocado so it was no shock that this was my favourite product between the two.

Thank you Yako for sending me these amazing products.
I cannot wait to continue my Spring styling with these gems.

love & light,

GOLD CRUSH: HAIR VITAMINS!

Picture
I big chopped my hair at the young age of 11, looking back; it was such a brave thing to do as at the time I was under a heavy influence from the Media to straighten my hair and fit in to what was seen as beautiful. I’ve always loved having long hair, I remember coming home from school and putting my school jumper over my head swaying it side to side to feel like I had long hair. I invested so much time trying to get perfect curls after I big chopped and once I realised my hair wasn’t made to be perfect; I began to embrace it for what it is.

My fro is beautiful. Even though it shrinks, it gets frizzy, it dries up in cold weather and in hot weather too, it drinks conditioner like water, it takes forever to dry and it requires intense planning ahead to wash it before I go out. The list goes on but despite all those things, it is still a liberating feeling to embrace something I once used to be ashamed of.
Picture
I was sent some hair vitamins from Gold Crush hair and although I was very hesitant to try them, I loved everything the brand stood for and the message they want to share with the world. “Hair care begins within.” I strongly believe that what you put in to your hair is what you get out. If you eat healthily, you will feel healthy. It all starts with the inside so its important to feed your body with nutrients.

They also sent me this really cool T-Shirt that allows you to see the length of your hair. It's such a fun way of seeing how the supplements have worked.  I didn't realise my hair was that long, especially after stretching it out! I'll definitely put this on once a month to track my growth.

My hair has grown a lot in the last year but my main focus is not length. I choose health over length because you cannot achieve length without health. These vitamins are full of so many nutrients that we generally need in our bodies such as Vitamin A, C and D as well as Iron and Calcium. Although it has only been a month my hair feels a lot healthier. I’ve had my hair dyed blonde which did dry out my hair overtime especially being in the cold London winter weather but the new growth of my dark hair has definitely proven to be a lot more responsive to products whilst styling with a healthy shine.
Picture
It’s important to make sure you follow the routine, taking them at the same time each day. I took mine with my morning porridge and my dinner as advised on the packaging. I am still taking them now so I look forward to seeing the difference from before and after once both tubs are finished which I will be sure to share on social media. But it is important to take the supplements whilst also focusing on having a  healthy diet and lifestyle. Each tub contains 60 capsules which will last you a month!

My favourite part about working with brands is hearing the story of how they started and what inspired them to. Aside from the food supplements themselves, I wanted you to hear the story of Gold Crush Hair and how it started.
Picture
What inspired you to create Gold Crush?
I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), in 2009, PCOS is a condition which causes extreme discomfort and a wealth of symptoms such as, non cancerous cysts, thinning hair, weight gain, infertility, acne and sporadic growth of body hair due to a hormonal imbalance.

Having sought treatment, I found that I reacted negatively to most medication, with one of the side effects being a spike in blood pressure. So I decided to self medicate using holistic vitamin supplements and all of her symptoms subsided. I became a health and fitness fanatic - constantly researching diet, nutrition, exercise and healthcare. By taking a variety of vitamins, I found that they increased metabolism, boosted the nervous system and generally made me feel and look healthier. I noticed that my hair and skin condition improved greatly, going from having problematic acne, to clear skin. Thin hair to very thick healthy locks. That was the pivotal moment for coming up with the business concept – To create a natural vitamin supplement to help maintain the healthy growth of hair.

I wanted to create a vitamin brand with a unique USP, what sets Gold Crush apart from 97% competitors is the fact that many high street and online vitamin brands have bulking agents and fillers including Magnesium Stearate, Titanium Dioxide, Talc, Hydrogenated Oils and Colourants - these ingredients have a multitude of possible side effects including creating a suppressed immune system and blocking nutrients from entering the bloodstream

Gold Crush is about supporting women and their beauty goals, providing holistic products with the health of consumers in mind. Transforming women’s looks and supporting their health.
Picture
What does Gold Crush mean to you?
GoldCrush means freedom and education. We all have 9 to 5's, but I think that it is very important for us in the Afro-Caribbean community to take the time to work on projects and businesses outside of the constraints of the office. The internet has become an incredible force and a game changer. I think that in not using it would be a huge disadvantage. As a community that has a lower amount of generational wealth the internet gives us the opportunity to run initiatives, businesses and projects that can reach the four corners of the world.

What are you goals for the future?
I would love to develop Gold Crush into a full hair care line with a unique product offering. I am passionate about health a fitness so I will be starting a fitness clothing/equipment brand.  I plan to continue working in eCommerce to learn as much about the industry as possible. And at some point I want provide mentorship for new eCommerce businesses.

Picture
When you aren't in business mode, what do you like to do?
If I am not watching Netflix or my 200 subscriptions on YouTube (my guilty obsession). I am usually taking a course to do with eCommerce. I am on a massive health kick, if I am not using my kettle-bells in my living room then I will be at the gym or meal prepping.

CURLHARMONY

Picture
MEET CURLHARMONY
I was first introduced to this line of products towards the end of Summer,
I am a product junkie but on a trip to Wolverhampton; I had an urge to try this line of products.
I absolutely loved the smell and I even met a curly girl on the train who wanted to know;
what I had used as she loved the definition and shine of my hair.

Now that it is winter and the curls are getting dryer,
I thought it would be a great time to introduce you to Curl Harmony.
These products are perfect for keeping your curls moisturised and healthy.
Picture
MY TOP PICK: CURL REVIVER!
If you have had me on Snapchat for a while,
you would remember a video of me showing you how to "revive" my curls.
This product is perfect for smoothing down those halo curls that never want to behave.
I also use this product for my ends when I finish diffusing.
It has many uses and it's super lightweight so your hair doesn't feel "heavy"
This has definitely been in my handbag for the last few months!
Did I mention? It smells absolutely amazing!
Infused with plenty of oils and butters to nourish your hair!
Picture
INTENSIVE REPAIR: DEEP CONDITIONER!
I was really affected by the winter weather and my first response was to use 100 different products to repair my hair. Simplicity is thee key secret for healthy curls, it's always a good idea to stick to one line as they work well together or use one consistent product which you go to for an intensive repair.

My first thought of the product wasn't anything fancy but after rinsing my hair,
that is when I really saw the results. It really softens your hair leaving that silky coating to keep it moisturised throughout your wash n' go.
Picture
THE LEAVE IN: CONDITIONER!
Every curly must have a "Leave In Conditioner."
I find my hair is more defined and moisturised.
I achieved the best results from crating the product through; then scrunching.
Although, afterwards I did use my own gel to give it hold; I didn't need to use any curl creams.
This product is very light weight and a little goes a long way.
It's perfect for day 3 and 4 curls when you spritz with water and scrunch in.
Picture
I got the chance to interview Nadine from Curl Harmony to find out her story,
It's amazing to see that more and more women are shining their gift with the world.

What do you love about your brand?
I'm really proud that I created each product to cater for what I wasn't able to find.
I love the range of quality natural ingredients we use like shea butter, coconut butter, mango butter and avocado oil. I also love that we are inclusive of all curl types.
Wavy, curly, afro and kinky hair; we've got your back!

How do you want curly girls to feel after using your product?
Delighted! We get a lot of great feedback and we have so many loyal customers.

What is your goal for Curl Harmony?
There are million of curly girls out there, we want to help as many as we can!
We're ready to take on the world!

DESIGN ESSENTIALS

Picture
There are so many amazing brands with a mission to empower women;
to love and embrace their curls. Design Essentials is one of them.
The line is filled with so many products which cater to different kinks, curls and swirls.

I was luck enough to work with the brand gifting the Happy Froday attendee's in London,
As well as being able to try the line which is all over my Instagram feed!
Picture

COCONUT & MONOI: DEEP MOISTURE MILK SOUFFFLÉ

My product draw is filled with so many different products made to enhance your curls.
I have tried so many brands but I seem to get similar results.
I read on @TarenGuy's Instagram;
that it is very much about the technique rather than the product.

I applied this product on freshly washed hair after crating the Deep Moisture Milk Crème.
As it is very thick, you do not need to use a lot of it.
It aims to give you definition keeping your hair lightweight.
I absolutely love the smell and the way it made my hair feel.
Picture

COCONUT & MONOI: COCONUT WATER CURL REFRESHER

This one is for all the girls staring at the mirror in the morning.
I am a University student so I really cannot be fussing around my hair like I used to.
I like being simple but keeping my hair moisturised since it is always so cold.
This refresher is perfect for day 3 and day 4 styles when you want to keep your hair popping!
Simply spray on your hair from a distance and scrunch for best results.
Picture

COCONUT & MONOI: INTENSE SHINE OIL MIST

I fell in a deep love for one product in particular, the Coconut & Oil Mist is definitely my absolute favourite and is always in my handbag no matter how big or small.

As it is absolutely freezing in London now, my hair is definitely getting dryer and bigger. Now, if anyone knows me they know I love the volume but dry hair is not for me.

After diffusing my hair, it can become quiet dry and frizzy so I found a way to avoid this. Simply spraying some mist on the halo curls and smoothing it down. Or from a distance, spray all over your hair and scrunch in. Both have amazing results but it depends on your preferences.

Many people ask what I use on my hair after dying it, I didn’t experience much damage but I find when the temperature changes; my hair makes an attempt to. The main thing is to keep your hair moisturised without using too many products. Keep your routine simple and always finish with a spray or two of the Coconut and Monoi Oil Mist too!

OH HELLO HAIR!

Picture
I’m so fascinated by the fact that my big hair has connected me with so many amazing brands.
It was so much fun connecting with @HelloHair all the way from Australia!
I really love the brand and how much they want to revitalise different curl types.

Now that the winter is here in London, my hair needs extra care.
My ‘fro is my pillow, my earmuffs and my hat in the winter so,
it is important I give it some love too.
Deep conditioning treatments are great but after a while my curls don't respond as well;
so I was craving something which repairs my hair without having to make my own masks out of organic food I love to eat and sitting under dryers for hours.
I love being simple with my routine as healthy hair is more important than anything.
Picture
Luckily, this little gem caters to all the needs each curl and swirl has.
I first used the mask on dry hair, this is instructed as it is able to repair the hair a lot more effectively compared to when the curls are wet. The smell is so fruity and really takes you to a paradise, especially as the consistency feels very soft with a moisturising texture.

Once I applied everywhere and put my hair in a bun, I rinsed with warm water and applied my cleansing cream. During rinsing I was able to begin detangling as it had softened my hair.
The wonderful thing about the packaging is you do not have to use a lot as it is simple to use and it is a great gem for traveling.
Picture
I’ll be going to Spain next week and this will definitely be in my suitcase so I can give my hair a mini pamper from all the swimming I’ll be doing. I’d definitely recommend this product to people who want to experiment and try something new and fun. I’m not a big fan of spending too much time on my hair but this really made it easy to detangle and make my hair feel pampered.
