Africa Fashion Week inspired me to love my roots.
So I thought I'd capture my new energy with Jekkah.
Jekkah is a clothing brand in the city which aspires to share a vibrant love for prints.
There was no-one better to do this with than my big sister René Daniella.
With the magical skills of Melissa Gibbs and Naomi Alabii this vision came to light.

HOW HAS AFRICA INSPIRED JEKKAH?
Jekkah was born in The Gambia so it was the biggest inspiration for the brand.
We aspire to inspire the culture of Africa in the most respectful and positive light.

WHAT SPARKED THE CREATION OF JEKKAH?
The idea came from my business partner and school friend Kamil.
Having grown up in The Gambia and having a family business in African textiles he used to bring fun and colourful pyjama trousers when he visited in the school holidays. Everyone was fascinated and mesmerised by them, so we knew that there was some magic in the prints.

WHO INSPIRES YOU?
We are inspired by culture and colours. I seek inspiration from Artists.
We love Natty, who shares a similar passion to Jekkah.
We support the charity, ERASE which does phenomenal work in The Gambia.
Natty is an incredible Artist and he has definitely been an influence on our passion.

WHAT DOES JEKKAH AIM TO PROMOTE?
Jekkah brings wholesomeness to your life.
We support Africa by providing jobs in The Gambia;
where the vast majority of our clothing is manufactured.
We can only grow if we support those who are around us;
So we support ERASE who we feel promotes helping others.
Our clothes have an identity and that identity is Africa - we are not a soundbite.

FINAL WORDS?
"This collaboration has been our most enjoyable to date!
Two of the bubbliest, funnest girls I have had the pleasure of meeting.
And they don’t look too bad in our clothes too."

It has been an insightful Summer working with René creating magic together.
I'd like to think I am inspired by the way she embraces being a woman.
And although she has many features which I want to reflect about myself,
I found that whilst doing this shoot I gained an understanding of our individualities as people.
I feel that as women we spend so much time comparing instead of celebrating.
There is so much besides beauty to be celebrated,
This collaboration allowed me to grow and recognise the flaws which make me, me.
